A moth belonging to the order Lepidoptera and the family Orthoptera. It is also called the Funagatake moth or the Sakura moth. Its wing span is 40-50 mm. Its forewings are light gray-yellow with a purple-black pattern at the base and a thick band of the same color on the outer edge. The hind wings often have a faint dark band near the outer edge. It is found in mainland Japan, Tsushima, Taiwan, and adjacent continents. It emerges once a year and often flies to lights in summer. The larvae are pests of the Rosaceae family, including cherry blossoms and pears, and can grow in colonies and cause great damage. In autumn, they enter the soil, pupate, and overwinter.
