In many acute inflammations, neutrophils are the predominant inflammatory cells among the white blood cells mentioned above, but in allergic inflammation, eosinophils appear in large numbers. In chronic inflammation, monocytes, macrophages, plasma cells, and lymphocytes are predominant.
