Born: March 9, 1890. Buyatka, Kukalka
[Died] November 8, 1986. Soviet politician in Moscow. Real name VMSkryabin. Entered Kazan Middle School in 1906 and joined the Bolsheviks in the same year. Arrested and exiled in 1909, released in 1911. Later studied at the Higher Industrial School in St. Petersburg and became a full-time organizer for the Bolsheviks. After the October Revolution in 1917, held various posts in local Communist organizations. In 1926, he was a member of the Politburo. From 1930 to 1941, he was Chairman of the Council of People's Commissars (Prime Minister). In May 1939, he also served as People's Commissar for Foreign Affairs, and in August of the same year, the German-Soviet Non-Aggression Pact was signed. In May 1941, he became First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister when I. Stalin became Prime Minister. In 1949, he became the sole First Deputy Prime Minister. In 1953, he became First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister in the GM Malenkov cabinet. He served as Stalin's loyal right-hand man, but after Stalin's death his prestige waned and he was forced to self-criticize in 1955 and resign as foreign minister in 1956. In June 1957 he was stripped of all his posts, including as a member of the party's central committee, and was appointed ambassador to Mongolia. In 1961, before the 22nd Party Congress, he sent a letter of opinion criticizing the new draft platform as revisionism, which led to his complete political downfall and led to him being retired. In 1964 it was revealed that he had been expelled from the party. He rejoined the party in 1984.
