[History and current status of SD]
It was invented by American Jay W. Forrester in 1956. It was originally called Industrial Dynamics (ID) because it was conceived to study the nature of companies that change over time, and it attracted considerable attention at the time because of its many characteristics. Forrester applied this method to various systems and published Urban Dynamics (1969), which dealt with urban problems.
