A town in Kamiiso District, Hokkaido, facing the Tsugaru Strait. Its main agricultural crop is rice, and it is one of the leading rice-producing areas in southern Hokkaido. It also engages in forestry, such as artificial afforestation, and aquaculture, such as sea urchin, abalone, flounder, and salmon farming. In the southwestern part of the town is Shiriuchi Onsen (a salt spring), said to be the oldest hot spring in Hokkaido. Area: 196.75 km2 . Population: 5,074 (2010).
