A town in Kamiiso District, Hokkaido, facing the Tsugaru Strait. Its main agricultural crop is rice, and it is one of the leading rice-producing areas in southern Hokkaido. It also engages in forestry, such as artificial afforestation, and aquaculture, such as sea urchin, abalone, flounder, and salmon farming. In the southwestern part of the town is Shiriuchi Onsen (a salt spring), said to be the oldest hot spring in Hokkaido. Area: 196.75 km2 . Population: 5,074 (2010). 津軽海峡に面する，北海道上磯郡の町。農業は水稲を主要作物とし，道南でも指折りの米の生産地。また，人工造林などの林業，ウニ，アワビ，ヒラメ，サケなど養殖漁業も行う。南西部に北海道内で最古の開湯と伝わる知内温泉（食塩泉）が湧く。196.75km2。5074人（2010）。
