Tomotaka Tasaka

Japanese: 田坂具隆 - たさかともたか

Film director. Born in Hiroshima Prefecture. Dropped out of Daisan High School. Joined Nikkatsu Taishogun Studio in 1924 (Taisho 13), and became a director with "Pumpkin Soudoku" (1926). In his early days, he made action films, bright and fantastic comedies such as "Soap Girls" (1927), and melodramas such as "Sun and Moon in the Heart" (1931). After the advent of talkies, he developed a style of sincere realism, and was seen as a leader in the Japanese film industry during the war with his works "The Truthful Path" (1937), "Five Scout Soldiers" (1938), "Roadside Stones" (1938), "Earth and Soldiers" (1939), and "Navy" (1943). He was exposed to radiation in Hiroshima and fought the disease, but returned with "Doburoku no Tatsu" (1949). At the new Nikkatsu company, she showed vitality in "The Maid" (1955), and brought a breath of fresh air to Yujiro Ishihara's films, such as "Baby Carriage" (1956), "The Sunny Slope" (1958), and "The Flow of the Young River" (1959). In 1959 (Showa 34), she moved to Toei and made literary films such as "Gobancho Yugirirou" (1963) and "Hiyameshi to Osan-chan" (1965), but her final work was "Scrap Group" (1968), and she died on October 17, 1974.

映画監督。広島県生まれ。第三高等学校中退。1924年（大正13）日活大将軍撮影所入社、『かぼちゃ騒動記』（1926）で監督となる。初期には、活劇や『しゃぼん娘』（1927）などの明るい幻想的な喜劇、『心の日月』（1931）などのメロドラマをつくる。トーキー以後、真摯(しんし)なリアリズムの作風を展開、『真実一路』（1937）、『五人の斥候兵(せっこうへい)』（1938）、『路傍の石』（1938）、『土と兵隊』（1939）、『海軍』（1943）によって、戦時下の日本映画界のリーダーに目された。広島で被曝(ひばく)して闘病生活を送り、『どぶろくの辰(たつ)』（1949）で復帰。新生日活で『女中ッ子』（1955）に生気をみせ、『乳母車(うばぐるま)』（1956）、『陽(ひ)のあたる坂道』（1958）、『若い川の流れ』（1959）など石原裕次郎作品に新風を送った。1959年（昭和34）東映に移り、文芸映画『五番町夕霧楼』（1963）、『冷飯とおさんとちゃん』（1965）を撮るが、『スクラップ集団』（1968）を遺作として、昭和49年10月17日死去。
