Naotsune Momoi - Momonoi Tadatsune

Japanese:
Naotsune Momoi - Momonoi Tadatsune
Year of birth: Year of birth and death unknown. Military commander during the Northern and Southern Court period. Son of Sadayori. Hyogo no Suke, Suruga no Kami, Osakabu no Daifu, Uma Gon no Kami, and Harima no Kami. When Kitabatake Akiie, who was on the side of Emperor Godaigo, attacked from Mutsu in 1337, he pursued them following Ashikaga Takauji's second son Yoshiakira, and the following year achieved the feat of defeating them in Nara. It is said that he turned against Takauji and joined Tadayoshi's side during the Kan'o Disturbance in 1350 because Takanao Moronao ignored his achievements, but it was shortly after this that he became Shugo of Wakasa (Fukui Prefecture). He later served as Shugo of Iga (Mie Prefecture), and in 1344 he became Shugo of Etchu (Toyama Prefecture) and made the area his base. During the Kan'o Disturbance, he consistently played a central role in the Naoyoshi faction, and in January 1920, he led a large army from Etchu into Kyoto and drove out Takauji and Yoshiakira, father and son. In February of the following year, Takauji and Naoyoshi made a peace agreement, and when Naoyoshi took control of the shogunate, he was appointed as the head of the Inketsuke. However, when Naoyoshi fled to Echizen in August of the same year, he opposed peace negotiations with Takauji to the very end, and even after Naoyoshi was killed, he maintained his influence in Etchu by allying with the Yamana clan and other Naofyu factions and the Southern Court forces, and in 1920, he entered Kyoto and pursued Takauji to Omi. In 1921, he was defeated by the Muromachi Shogunate forces in Etchu, and fled via Kyoto to the Kanto Kanrei Ashikaga Motouji, but when Motouji died in 1928, he became a monk and submitted to the shogunate, and his younger brother Naonobu was appointed as Etchu Shugo in place of the deposed Shiba clan. However, when the Shiba clan returned to the shogunate the following year, he was oppressed again and fled to Echigo in 1591. After fighting for three years against Shiba Yoshimasa, who became the governor of the province in place of Naonobu, he was defeated and never heard from again.
