An insect of the Lepidoptera order, family Botrytis. Wing spans approximately 1.8 cm. The forewings are gray or dark gray-brown, the leading edge and base are blackish brown, and the central part of the wing is a dark band from the leading edge to the trailing edge. It is distributed throughout Hokkaido to Yakushima, as well as the Korean Peninsula, China, and southeastern Russia. It emerges once a year in cold regions and two to three times a year in warm regions. The larvae are important pests that damage apple and peach fruits, and feed on wild Japanese quince. 鱗翅目シンクイガ科の昆虫。翅の開張1.8cm内外。前翅は灰色または暗い灰褐色,前縁と基部は黒褐色で,翅の中央部は前縁から後縁まで帯状に暗色。北海道から屋久島までの各地と,朝鮮半島,中国,ロシアの南東部に分布する。寒地では年1回,温暖地では年2~3回発生する。幼虫はリンゴ,モモの果実を加害する重要な害虫で,野生のズミの果実を食べる。卵は果実の表面に産みつけられ,10日前後で孵化(ふか)した幼虫は,直ちに果実内に食入する。
