Year of death: 2.10 (996) Year of birth: Unknown. A poet of the Heian period. Daughter of Takashina Shigetada. Also known as Takanaishi and the mother of Fujiwara no Ise, she is also known as Gito Sanshi no Haha. She served as a lady-in-waiting in the Imperial Court of Emperor En'yu, but her knowledge of Chinese characters and Chinese studies was highly valued, leading to her promotion to Naishi. She became the wife of Chukanpaku Fujiwara no Michitaka, and gave birth to Emperor Ichijo's Empress Teishi, Minister of the Interior Ise, and Chunagon Takaie, and her father Shigetada also rose to the rank of Junior Second Rank, which became the foundation of the Takashina clan's prosperity. Only six of her waka poems remain, starting with the "Shuishu" collection, but it can be seen in "Okagami" and "Eiga Monogatari" that she excelled in Chinese poetry and prose, influenced by her highly educated father. Due to this influence, Teishi and the other daughters of the Chukanpaku family were highly regarded for their Chinese talents from a young age. She died while Ise and Takaie were exiled.
