"A black bird in the morning sun"

In particular, his experiences and reflections on the traditional cultures of China and Japan are crystallized in his collection of prose poems, "Connaissance de l'Est" (1900, expanded in 1906), and his critical essay, "The Black Bird in the Morning Sun" (1927). His works, "Introduction to Dutch Painting" (1935), which are an extension of his considerations of Taoism and Zhuangzi philosophies and Noh, and his collection of art essays, "The Eye Listens" (1946), are both excellent treatises on plastic arts and sharp treatises on civilization.
