Moname

It is a prefecture-level city in the west of Guangdong Province, China. Administratively, it has jurisdiction over Dianbai District and Maonan District, and as the acting jurisdiction of three prefecture-level cities, including Xinyi (as of 2016), it includes the area from the South China Sea coast to the foot of the Yunkai Mountains on the provincial border. Population 7,471,700 (2010). During the Ming and Qing dynasties, it was under the control of Gaozhou Prefecture, but after the founding of the People's Republic of China, a large amount of oil shale was discovered here, and it developed into a crude oil production area in southern China. It has a crude oil refinery for the offshore oil fields in South China. It is connected by rail to the oil shipping port of Zhanjiang, and there is also a railroad to Guangzhou via Sanshui. It is also famous as an area with a dog-eating culture.

中国、広東(カントン)省西部の地級市。行政上は電白(でんはく)区と茂南(もなん)区を管轄し、信宜(しんぎ)など3県級市の管轄代行を行う（2016年時点）ため、南シナ海沿岸から省境の雲開大山山麓に至る地域を含む。人口747万1700（2010）。明(みん)、清(しん)の時代には高州府の治下にあったが、中華人民共和国成立後、この地に大量のオイルシェール（油母頁岩(ゆぼけつがん)）が発見されてから、中国南部の原油生産地として発達した。華南の海底油田の原油製油所がある。鉄道で石油積出し港の湛江(たんこう)と結ばれるほか、広州(こうしゅう)へは三水(さんすい)経由で鉄道が通じる。イヌ食文化のある地域としても有名。
