Year of death: 14th October 1712 (12th November 1712) Year of birth: 25th April 1662 (11th June 1662) The 6th Shogun of the Edo Shogunate. The eldest son of Tokugawa Tsunashige, lord of Kofu with a fief of 250,000 koku, and his concubine, Ohora (Choshouin). He was initially raised by his retainer Niimi Masanobu and called Niimi Sakon, but in 1670 (Kanbun 10), he became Tsunashige's heir and changed his name to Matsudaira Toramatsu. In 1676 (Enpo 4), he came of age and was appointed Junior Third Rank, Left Middle Captain of the Konoe, and called Tsunatoyo. After Tsunashige's death in 1676, he inherited the family headship, and in 1678 he was promoted to Councilor and Senior Third Rank, and was given an additional 100,000 koku, giving him a fief of 350,000 koku. In 1690 (Genroku 3), he was promoted to Gon Chunagon. In 1704 (Hōei 1), he was adopted by his uncle, the 5th Shogun Tsunayoshi, and changed his name to Ienobu. The following year, he was appointed Junior Second Rank, Gon Dainagon. After Tsunayoshi's death in 1613, at the age of 48 he became Shogun and was appointed Minister of the Interior with the rank of Shonii, but died in that position after four years. He sought to reform politics by placing great value on his close aides since the Kofu domain, Soyome Ningenbu Akifusa, and the Confucian scholar Arai Hakuseki, and this was later referred to as the "righteous reign." He was a man of learning, and also enjoyed Sarugaku, and although he was a tolerant and generous person, he was also a man of wise decisions. 没年:正徳2.10.14(1712.11.12) 生年:寛文2.4.25(1662.6.11) 江戸幕府第6代将軍。甲府25万石の領主徳川綱重とその側室於保良(長昌院)の長子。初め家臣新見正信に養育されて新見左近と称し,寛文10(1670)年綱重の嗣子となって松平虎松と改めた。延宝4(1676)年に元服して従三位左近衛権中将に叙任され,綱豊と称す。6年綱重の死後家督を相続し,8年参議,正三位に昇り,さらに10万石を加増されて35万石を領した。元禄3(1690)年権中納言に昇進。宝永1(1704)年叔父の5代将軍綱吉の養嗣子となり,諱を家宣と改め,翌2年従二位権大納言に叙任。6年綱吉没後,48歳のとき将軍となって正二位内大臣に叙任されたが,在職4年にして没した。甲府藩以来の側近である側用人間部詮房や儒者新井白石を重用して政治の刷新を図り,後世「正徳の治」と称された。好学の人であり,また猿楽を好み,性格は寛仁でありながら,英断の人でもあったという。 (深井雅海) 出典 朝日日本歴史人物事典:(株)朝日新聞出版朝日日本歴史人物事典について 情報 |
