...At Karatepe and Fayaztepe on the north bank of the Oxos River (Amu Darya), Gandharan-style Buddha statues were made from limestone and clay during the 2nd to 4th centuries under the rule of the Kushan dynasty. The 7th to 8th century clay sculptures excavated at Ajnatepe and Quba have much in common with those from late Afghanistan. In East Turkestan, ruins are scattered along both the north and south routes of the Tianshan South Route, and stone caves were excavated on the northern route, but on the southern route, where there are no rocky mountains, temples were built of brick and wood. *Some of the terminology explanations that mention "Ajnatepe" are listed below.
