Winchester rifle - Winchester rifle

Winchester is the name of a series of firearms made by the Winchester Repeating Rifle Company, which Oliver F. Winchester (1810-1880) established in New Haven, Connecticut, USA, in 1857. In particular, the Model 66 repeating rifle, which went on sale in 1866, and the Model 73, an improved version of the Model 66 with an increased powder charge, are famous, along with the Colt pistol, as "the repeating rifles that conquered the West." The company subsequently designed, developed and sold dozens of types of rifles, shotguns and various types of ammunition, and in 1931 changed its name to Winchester Western. During World War II, the company manufactured 800,000 of the 1.3 million firearms produced for the US military. It remains one of the world's leading firearms manufacturers.
