Code of Hammurapi - Code of Hammurapi

Japanese: ハンムラピ法典 - ハンムラピほうてん
Code of Hammurapi - Code of Hammurapi
This is a cuneiform law issued by King Hammurapi that systematizes model judgments. In 1901, a stone pillar containing the text of the law was excavated in Susa. It has 282 articles in total. It contains a wide range of provisions, mainly private law, and although it includes retaliation (the Tario principle, such as ``an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth'') and social discrimination in punishments, it also takes into consideration the welfare of the people, such as by prohibiting the seizure of necessities of life. It is the pinnacle of ancient Oriental law and had a great influence on later generations.
