Mona Lisa (English spelling)

A masterpiece by Leonardo da Vinci. Not only does it represent a pinnacle of the Italian High Renaissance style, it is also considered a symbol of Western classical painting. 77cm height x 53cm width, oil on board. In the Louvre Museum. The year of production is unknown, but it is estimated to be around 1503-10. In the foreground, in front of the battlement, a half-torso young woman (who also appears middle-aged) clad in black clothes and a veil sits slightly to one side on an armchair, her androgynous expression sporting an ambiguous and enigmatic smile.

レオナルド･ダ･ビンチの代表作。イタリア盛期ルネサンス様式の一頂点をなすばかりでなく，西洋古典絵画のシンボルともみなされる。縦77cm×横53cm，板に油彩。ルーブル美術館蔵。制作年は不詳であるが1503‐10年ころと推定される。画面前景には，胸壁の前に，黒い服とベールをまとった半身の若い婦人(中年とも見える)がやや斜向きで肘（ひじ）掛けいすにすわり，その中性的な表情には多義的で謎めいた微笑がたたえられている。
