Siachen Glacier

Japanese: シアチェン氷河 - しあちぇんひょうが（英語表記）Siachen Glacier

A glacier in the eastern Karakoram range. It is located at the eastern end of the range and flows from northwest to southeast between the Siachen Muztagh, the main watershed of the Asian continent, and the Saltoro range, which runs parallel to the south of the Siachen Muztagh range, forming the source of the Nubra River. It was discovered by British explorer T. Longstaff in 1909 and was given the name "Siachen", meaning rose, after the name of the pasture at the end of the glacier. The Americans WH Workman and his wife led expeditions in 1912 and the Italian G. Dainelli led expeditions in 1930 to investigate the glacier.

カラコルム山脈東部にある氷河。同山系東端に位置し，アジア大陸の主分水嶺となっているシアチェン･ムスターグ(山脈)と，その南側を並走するサルトロ山脈の間を北西から南東へ流れてヌブラ川の水源をなす。1909年イギリス人探検家T.ロングスタッフがこれを発見し，氷河末端の放牧地の名でバラを意味する〈シアチェン〉の名を氷河に与えた。アメリカ人W.H.ワークマン夫妻が12年に，イタリア人G.ダイネリが30年に探検隊を率いて調査した。
