An evergreen epiphytic orchid. Its Japanese name comes from its rod-shaped leaves. The stems are wrapped in leaf sheaths. The leaves are alternate in two rows, slender and cylindrical, about 10 cm long and 3-4 mm in diameter. In July and August, 1-4 flowers appear in the leaf axils. The flowers are about 1 cm in diameter, and the sepals and petals are pale green. The lip petal is blackish brown with small lateral lobes at the base, and the central lobe is shallowly bisected at the tip. There is no spur. It is found in western Japan west of central Honshu, the Ryukyu Islands, Taiwan, and China, and grows on trees in warm temperate forests.
