During the Xinhai Revolution, he attempted to assassinate Yuan Shikai, but gave up when the North-South Peace Agreement was concluded. After that, he retired to Hangzhou to meditate, and in May 1812, he organized the anarchist group, the Heming School, in Guangzhou, and further founded the Heart Society, which advocated moral cultivation. In August 1813, the Heming School launched the magazine Heming Lu, but after it was banned, it was renamed Min Sheng and continued to be published in Macau.
