In the Echizen region, this term refers to a house with a tiled or wooden roof. Only houses along the Ekiji line had such roofs for aesthetic reasons and fire prevention, hence the name.

しゅく‐や【宿屋】

〘名〙 瓦ぶきまたは板ぶき屋根の家のことを越前地方でいう。駅路の家だけが美観や防火のためにそうしていたのでこの名がある。
