Dance Persuasion - Odori Kudoki
In folk songs, long narrative songs are called "kudoki," but they are often used as Bon Odori songs, in which case they are called "odori-kudoki." Noh plays, Heikyoku, Gidayubushi, and other songs also contain parts called "kudoki," but the narrative lyrics of folk song kudoki are a descendant of "kanarimono" (storytelling) passed down by gate-touring performers. In the case of Bon Odori, the song is mainly performed by the leader, and the dancers sing along in a chant. They are often called by the title of the song, such as "Kawachi Ondo" or "Goshu Ondo," and "Yagibushi" is also a typical example of odori-kudoki, along with the above two songs, which have a singing style centered on the leader.
