漢方薬に用いる生薬(しょうやく)の一つ。キク科モッコウの根を乾燥したもの。健胃、鎮痛、利尿、抗菌などの作用がある。高血圧、動脈硬化、肩こりに効く九味檳榔湯(くみびんろうとう)、更年期障害、月経不順に効く女神散(にょしんさん)などに含まれる。
