Choko is a phonetic character of <choku>. As the Morisada Manko states, "In recent years in the Edo period, choshi are used only for Shikisei, and warm tokkuri are used for Kamo. ... In recent years, lacquer cups are rarely used for sake cups, and porcelain is used exclusively. ... In the three capitals, Shikisei and lacquered cups are used, and choko are used for Kamo.
