Demodex mange - Demodex mange

Japanese: 毛包虫症 - もうほうちゅうしょう(英語表記)demodectic mange
Demodex mange - Demodex mange
This is a skin disease caused by the infestation of tiny Demodex canis mites and Demodex felineus mites, the former of which infest dogs and the latter of which infest cats. It causes hair loss and dandruff-like peeling, and is followed by secondary bacterial infection and suppuration. Many infections are asymptomatic, but symptoms can be broadly categorized into dry and wet types. It first appears on the face, especially around the eyes and mouth, and the extremities, but can also spread from the lower neck to the lower abdomen and chest. Histologically, it is characterized by keratinization and parakeratosis, and abscesses are scattered in the dermis. Low-toxicity organophosphates are used for treatment.
