Mao Wen long (English spelling)
1576‐1629
A military commander in the late Ming Dynasty of China. He was called Zhennan. He was born in Pingyang, Shanxi Province (now Linfen City). In 1605 (33rd year of the Wanli era), he served under Li Chengliang, the military commander of Liaodong, and passed the military examination in the same year. When the Qing army captured Liaoyang, in 21st year (1st year of Tianqi era), he led 200 soldiers as a guerrilla under Guangning governor King Huazhen to pacify the islanders along the Liaodong Peninsula, and in July of the same year, he recaptured Zhenjiang on the lower reaches of the Yalu River. However, at the end of the same month, Zhenjiang was recaptured by the Qing army, so he invaded Huo Island (Pidao) and Shinya Island in Korea, established Dongjiang Town on Huo Island, set up Eight Camps, and used them as a base to disrupt the Qing army from behind.
