A printing method used when you want to reproduce the rich shading of photographic plates (halftones) like the original photograph. There are two different methods for faithfully reproducing the tones and subtle changes of photographic plates. One is to print in two colors using two plates, one dark ink and one light ink. For example, black ink is printed to produce the main tones, and then a light brown or light blue is printed over this. In offset printing, one-color photographic plate printing is often weak, so this is often used to compensate for the tones. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
