Ukrainian dancer and choreographer. Born in Kiev. After graduating from the Bolshoi Ballet School in Moscow, he joined the company and performed in Kasyan Goleizovsky's (1892-1970) "Beautiful Joseph" and "The Red Poppy". In 1936, he became a ballet master and organized a folk dance festival to introduce folk dances from all over the Soviet Union, and became director of the Folk Arts Theater. The following year, the Moiseyev Folk Dance Company was founded, and after World War II, it frequently performed overseas. He renamed the company the Moiseyev Folk Dance Company, and added his own works such as "Ukrainian Dance" and "Moldavian Dance" to the repertoire, as well as "Partisan" and "Football". One of his choreographed ballets is "Spartacus" (1958). In 1969, he received the Lenin Prize and became a People's Artist of the Soviet Union.
