When mixtures of various compositions of metallic titanium and _TiO2 are heated in a vacuum at 150°C for a long period of time, titanium oxides represented by the general formula Ti _n O ₂ n _-1 , such as Ti ₃ O ₅ , Ti ₄ O ₇ , Ti ₅ O ₉ , Ti ₆ O ₁₁ , Ti ₇ O ₁₃ , Ti ₈ O ₁₅ , Ti ₉ O _17, and Ti 10 O 19 _, are obtained.
[Titanium(IV) peroxide]
Chemical formula: TiO ₃ ･2H ₂ O. A yellow solid is obtained by dissolving the hydrated oxide TiO ₂ ･H ₂ O in sulfuric acid and oxidizing it with hydrogen peroxide in the presence of potassium sulfate K ₂ SO ₄ .
