Moyse - Marcel Moyse

French flutist. Born in Saint-Amour, a mountain village in eastern France. After graduating from the Paris Conservatory, he served as principal flutist with the Orchestre de Pasdeloup, the Paris Conservatory Orchestra, the Opera Comique, and the Concertos Straram. He was also active as a soloist and in chamber music, and is considered one of the greatest virtuoso flutists of the 20th century, establishing modern flute playing. He was a professor at the Paris Conservatory from 1932 to 1949. In 1934, he was awarded the Legion of Honor. He emigrated to the United States in 1949 and passed away in Brattleboro, Vermont. He perfected a dignified performance style that made the most of the characteristics of the flute, and had an enormous influence on younger generations. He visited Japan in 1973 and 1977 to teach.

フランスのフルート奏者。フランス東部の山村サンタムール生まれ。パリ音楽院を卒業後、パドルー管弦楽団、パリ音楽院管弦楽団、オペラ・コミック座、コンセール・ストララムの首席奏者を務め、一方、独奏と室内楽でも活躍、現代フルート奏法を確立した20世紀最高の名手。1932~49年パリ音楽院教授。34年レジオン・ドヌール勲章を受章。49年アメリカに移住し、バーモント州ブラトルボロで没した。フルートの特質を生かした品格の高い演奏スタイルを完成、後進に絶大な影響を及ぼした。わが国にも73年(昭和48)と77年に来朝し、指導にあたった。
