A type of coelenterate tabular coral. It flourished from the Ordovician to Silurian periods, and fossils are found in large numbers in limestone from that period. Along with Favosites, it is an important index fossil worldwide. The coral is long and tubular, and many of them gather together to form chain-like colonies, so it is also called chain coral.
