Merrill Lynch & Co., Inc.
An American financial conglomerate holding company, it has subsidiaries including the world's largest securities company, Merrill Lynch, Pierce, Fenner & Smith Inc., as well as insurance, real estate, and real estate finance. Its headquarters are in New York. In 1914, Charles Edward Merrill (1885-1956) established Charles E. Merrill & Co. in New York, and the following year, he brought in Edmund Calvert Lynch (1885-1938) as a partner, changing the company name to Merrill Lynch & Co.
