Its headquarters are in New York. In 1914, Charles Edward Merrill (1885-1956) established Charles E. Merrill & Co. in New York, and the following year, he brought in Edmund Calvert Lynch (1885-1938) as a partner, changing the company name to Merrill Lynch & Co.
