A salt of metamolybdic acid, one of the polymolybdic acids formed by condensation of molybdic acid. The general formula is M I 4 [Mo 8 O 26 ]・ n H 2 O (it can also be written as M I 2 O・4MoO 3 ・ n H 2 O). In the past, it was written as M I 6 H 4 [H 2 (Mo 2 O 7 ) 6 ]. Most of them are colorless crystals soluble in water. The crystals are easily efflorescent in air. They are generally obtained by adding molybdic acid or concentrated hydrochloric acid to an aqueous solution of molybdate or paramolybdate. It is known that the structure contains [Mo 8 O 26 ] 4-, which is a condensation of eight octahedral hexacoordinate [MoO 6 ] ions, as shown in the figure. モリブデン酸の縮合してできるポリモリブデン酸の一つであるメタモリブデン酸の塩。一般式MI4[Mo8O26]・nH2O(MI2O・4MoO3・nH2Oとも書ける)。古くはMI6H4[H2(Mo2O7)6]のように書かれたこともある。多くは無色の水に可溶の結晶。結晶は空気中では風解しやすい。一般にモリブデン酸塩あるいはパラモリブデン酸塩水溶液にモリブデン酸を加えるか,濃塩酸を加えて得られる。構造は図のように八面体型6配位の[MoO6]イオンが8個縮合した[Mo8O26]4-を含むことが知られている。
