Kim Il-sung

Japanese: 金日成 - きんにっせい
Kim Il-sung
A politician of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. His real name was Kim Sung-ju. He was born in South Pyongan Province. He worked under the leadership of the Communist Party of China in northeastern China (Manchuria) from a young age. He joined the Communist Party in 1931. He participated in the anti-Japanese guerrilla war from 1932 onwards, and moved to Soviet territory in 1940. He returned to his homeland as General Kim Il-sung with the Soviet army in 1945, and became Prime Minister (President of the Republic after 1972) when the Republic was founded in 1948, and Chairman of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea in 1949 (General Secretary after 1966). In 1950, he started the Korean War with the aim of unifying the country southwards, but failed. After the war, he established his power by eliminating Park Hun-young and others in 1953 and Choe Chang-ik of the Yenan faction in 1956, and has consistently held the position of the country's highest leader ever since. After the Sino-Soviet dispute in the 1960s, he advocated self-reliance and advocated the Juche (Juche) ideology. His son from his previous marriage, Kim Jong-il, inherited power.
