Born in the first year of the Bunsho era. Older brother of Arakida Moritake. In the tenth year of Bunmei era, he became the tenth negi (chief priest) of the Ise Naiku Shrine, and in the thirteenth year of the Eisho era, he became the first negi (chief priest), but committed suicide six days later on November 17th of the same year. He was 51 years old. He wrote the Eishoki, which clarified the sources of various rituals, and the Naiku Hikitsuke, a book on the rituals and construction of the shrine. He studied under Sogi and was also fond of renga (linked verse). His real surname was Sonoda. [Proverbs, etc.] If the flowers were to scatter in the wind, what would they do?
