Shikishima [town] - Shikishima
A former town in Nakakoma District, central Yamanashi Prefecture. The northern part is a mountain village in the Kamezawa River basin, while the southern part is a rice paddy area on the Arakawa alluvial fan facing the Kofu Basin, where sericulture is also thriving. The southern area has become a residential area due to urbanization on the western outskirts of Kofu City. Shosenkyo Gorge is located upstream of the Arakawa River. In September 2004, it merged with Ryuo Town in Nakakoma District and Futaba Town in Kitakoma District to form Kai City. 40.28 km2 . Population 19,106 (2003).
