Munda tribe - Munda tribe (English spelling)
A tribe living in central and eastern India, with a population of about 6 million, particularly concentrated in the hills of Chota Nagpur in Bihar. Originally from northwestern India, they migrated to this area following the Aryan invasion. Racially, they are Proto-Australoid, and linguistically, they belong to the Austroasiatic family that is widespread in mainland Southeast Asia. Munda means "wealthy and respected" and is the name used by Hindu people, while the Munda themselves call themselves "Horo", which means human.

インドの中・東部に住む部族の一つで,人口は約600万人。とくにビハール州のチョタ・ナーグプルの丘陵地帯に集中している。本来は北西部インドにいたが,アーリヤ人の侵入を受けて現地帯に移動した。人種的にはプロト・オーストラロイドに属し,言語的には東南アジア大陸部に広がるアウストロアジア語族に属する。ムンダとは〈富裕で信望のある人〉の意味で,ヒンドゥーの人々による呼称であり,ムンダ族自身の自称は〈ホロ〉で人間という意味である。
