Also written as 'Kokutsu'. Wooden shoes called sabots or clogs in Europe. These shoes were used for rainy weather from around the 2nd century BCE, and were used in Europe, India, China, Korea, and Japan (since the Heian period). They are made by drying and hollowing out willow, walnut, beech, and other wood. The word 'pokkuri', which became popular among children in Japan from around the Shōtoku era (1711-15), is a corrupted name from the sound made when wearing these wooden sandals. 木沓とも書く。ヨーロッパではサボ sabot,クロッグなどと呼ばれる木製の靴。前2世紀頃から用いられた雨天用の靴で,ヨーロッパ,インド,中国,朝鮮,日本 (平安時代以後) などで用いられた。ヤナギ,クルミ,ブナなどの木材を乾燥させ,これをくりぬいてつくる。日本で正徳年間 (1711~15) 頃から子女の間にみられたぽっくりは,この木履をはいたときの音ボクリから転訛した名称である。
