Japanese: 室戸[市] - むろと

A city in the southeastern part of Kochi Prefecture. It was incorporated as a city in 1959. It occupies a peninsula where Cape Muroto is located, and is mostly mountainous and hilly, with a narrow coastal plain. The city center is on the west coast, and it developed as a fishing base for tuna and bonito, with the well-maintained fishing ports of Murotsu and Tsuro at its center, which have undergone several renovations since the feudal era, but has been in decline in recent years. Vegetable and fruit cultivation is thriving. It is a tourist base for the Muroto-Anan Coast Quasi-National Park, and is served by buses from Kochi City and Aki City. ^{248.18 km2} . 高知県南東部の市。1959年市制。室戸岬のある半島部を占め，大部分は山地と丘陵で，海岸平野は狭い。中心市街は西岸にあり，藩政期以来数次の改修を経てよく整った室津，津呂(つろ)の漁港を中心とするマグロ，カツオの漁業基地として発達したが，近年は不振。野菜・果樹栽培が盛ん。室戸阿南海岸国定公園観光基地で，高知市，安芸市からバスが通じる。248.18km²。１万5210人（2010）。
