This is the simplest style of dwelling found among hunter-gatherers, such as the Australian Aborigines, the Negrito peoples, and the San people of the Kalahari Desert. It has no walls or floors, but a lean-to roof built directly onto the ground covered with tree branches and leaves. Hunter-gatherers are constantly wandering in search of food, so they do not build sturdy dwellings, and windbreaks are abandoned after a few days' stay and are built anew each time they change campsite. Building windbreaks is considered the role of women, and they are small enough for a husband, wife, and young child to lie down on.
