Born in 1792. He studied under Nakai Koutaku, a doctor of Western medicine in Hiroshima, and opened a practice in Hagi. In 1824, he went to Nagasaki, where he studied under Siebold and became the first head of the Narutaki School. In 1830, he opened a practice in Osaka, and later became a doctor for his hometown, Iwakuni Domain, in Suo (Yamaguchi Prefecture). He died on November 3, 1830, at the age of 41. His given name was Sei, and his pen name was Shikyu. His pen names were Shuto and Banshoseisha. His works include "Seikiron."
