Mbabane - Mbabane (English spelling)

The capital of Eswatini (formerly Swaziland), southeast Africa. It is located at an altitude of 1,150 meters in the mountainous region in the west of the country, and is only 20 kilometers from the border with the Republic of South Africa. Population 73,000 (1999 estimate), 60,691 (2017 census). It developed after the government was moved from Manzini in 1902 under the British protectorate. Although it is located in a more skewed position than Manzini, which is in the center of the country, the high altitude makes it a comfortable climate and suitable for white settlers to live in. In 1964, a railway was opened to transport iron ore from the nearby Bombridge iron deposits to Lourenço Marques (now Maputo) in Mozambique, and it became the capital with independence in 1968. The center of the town is Alistair Miller Street, lined with government offices, banks, hotels, etc. The royal palace is in Lobamba, about 16 kilometers southeast. The place name is derived from the 19th century Swazi King Mbandozeni.

アフリカ南東部、エスワティニ（旧、スワジランド）の首都。同国西部の山岳地帯の標高1150メートルに位置し、南アフリカ共和国との国境までわずか20キロメートルである。人口7万3000（1999推計）、6万0691（2017センサス）。イギリス保護領下の1902年に政庁がマンジニより移されてから発展した。国の中央部にあるマンジニに比べ位置的な偏りがあるが、高地のため気候は快適で、白人入植者の居住に適した。1964年、付近のボンブリッジ鉄鉱床の鉱石をモザンビークのロレンソ・マルケス（現、マプート）に運搬する鉄道が開通し、1968年独立とともに首都となった。町の中心はアリスター・ミラー通りで、官庁、銀行、ホテルなどが並ぶ。王宮は南東約16キロメートルのロバンバにある。地名は19世紀のスワジのムバンドゼニ王にちなむ。
