The Yellow Book

The Yellow Book
A British quarterly magazine for literature and painting. First published in April 1894. A typical "little magazine" that turned its back on the masses and aimed at a small readership. Beardsley's all-black illustrations on a yellow cover attracted attention. Many of the contributors were so-called fin de siècle writers, such as M. Beerbohm and WB Yeats. Both writers and artists clearly expressed the fin de siècle's art-first ideology, which sparked fierce debate for and against. Publication ceased with the 13th issue in April 1897. [Koike Shigeru]
