A city in central Tokyo. It was incorporated as a city in 1947. Located on the Musashino Plateau, it was developed as a new rice field settlement in the Edo period, and after the Great Kanto Earthquake, it developed into a suburban residential area. The residential development has been particularly remarkable since the city was incorporated. The Chuo Line and Keio Inokashira Line run through the Kichijoji area, and large stores are concentrated in front of Kichijoji Station. The area also has the arcade-style shopping street Sun Road, making it a bustling district and a central area of western Tokyo. There are many educational facilities, including Seikei University, Asia University, Japan Veterinary and Animal Science University, and Musashino Art University. Inokashira Park is located to the south of Kichijoji Station and stretches into Mitaka City. 10.98 km2 .
