ILS is an abbreviation of instrument landing system. It is an aircraft landing guidance system that uses directional radio waves. It combines a localizer radio wave that indicates the direction facing the centerline of the runway, a glide path radio wave that indicates the correct descent path, and a marker beacon that indicates the starting point of descent and the position from the end of the runway. The localizer is installed at the end of the runway opposite the approach path and emits radio waves of 108 to 112 MHz, and the glide path is placed to the side of the runway touchdown point and emits radio waves of 328.6 to 335.4 MHz. If the aircraft receives this and correctly matches the indicators on the indicator instruments, it can approach on the correct path. The marker beacon emits 75 MHz radio waves upward, and when an aircraft passes overhead, the cockpit light turns on and a modulated sound is heard. As a rule, the inner marker is installed 1000 feet from the end of the runway, the middle marker is installed about 3500 feet, and the outer marker is installed 5 to 6 miles away. In preparation for the overcrowding of air transport worldwide, major airports are converting to microwave landing systems (MLS), which can set multiple approach courses with greater precision. →Ground-guided landing system →Related topics Airport | Automatic landing system Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
