Kanibaba - Crab Baba

...The afterbirth was considered to be an alter ego of the newborn, and it was believed that the way it was disposed of would affect the newborn's future. Kanibaba is meconium, also called kanikuso or kaniko. It is black feces that is excreted within 2-3 days after birth, and in the past, it was common practice not to breastfeed the baby during this period, but to give it a drink made from a decoction of the roots of plants such as makuri and butterbur.
