...The spores are tetrahedral. The closely related species, M. flagellare (Maxim.) Hayata, differs in that its leaves are twice pinnate, its blades are oblong to ovate triangular, and its buds grow on the central axis at the tip of the blade. Both species have a pungent, pepper-like odor.
