A small terrestrial orchid that rarely grows on the forest floor of evergreen forests. It is characterized by the fact that the leaves and flowers appear at different times. The Japanese name is a reference to the corm, which resembles the bulbil of the Japanese yam, and the leaves, which resemble those of the Asparagus orchid family. It has a small corm. From May to July, a single flower appears on a flower stalk about 10 cm long. The leaves appear after the flower blooms. There is only one leaf, which is folded up like a fan inside the bud and when it opens, the petiole is long and the leaf blade is pentagonal-cordate, quite different from the leaves of normal orchids. The flowers are brown and do not open much, and are about 1 cm in diameter. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
