In 1897, Friedrich Gilly (1772-1800) in Prussia proposed a plan for the Frederick the Great Monument, in 1822 Cockerell designed the National Monument (unfinished) in Edinburgh, and from 1830 to 1842 Klenze designed Walhalla near Regensburg, all of which were modeled after the Parthenon. These movements were attempts by classical art to revive the Greek style, but were also supported by romantic motives to recreate the Acropolis hill. …
