The Ten Symbols of Eternal Youth and Longevity are the sun, water, pine, crane, turtle, deer, and herb of immortality, plus three of the following: mountain, cloud, moon, stone, and bamboo. The concept of eternal youth comes from Chinese Taoist thought, and the Longevity Chart depicts a fairyland reminiscent of Mount Horai. However, China does not have the term Ten Symbols of Eternal Youth, and although there are partial combinations such as pine and crane or pine, bamboo, and plum, there is no combination of the Ten Symbols of Eternal Youth. The Korean Ten Symbols of Eternal Youth are thought to have borrowed elements from Chinese Taoist thought and reconstructed them into something uniquely Korean, based on the inherent nature worship.
