Min'yakuyakukai - Min'yakuyakukai

This is a work by Nakae Chomin. It is a translation of Jean-Jacques Rousseau's The Social Contract, with commentary by the translator. It is a Chinese translation. It was published in 26 issues of Seiri Sodan, a magazine edited by Chomin, from issue 2 (March 10, 1882) to issue 46 (September 5, 1883). Of these, the part equivalent to the first volume of the original, published up to issue 11, was published as a book by Butsugakujuku Publishing Bureau in October 1882 (Meiji 15) under the title Minyaku Yakukai Volume 1. Chomin also had a separate translation of Minyakuron written in a mixed kana style, and handwritten copies of this had been in circulation since around 1874, but the elegant Chinese translation of Minyaku Yakukai was welcomed by civil rights activists and had a major impact on the Freedom and People's Rights Movement.

中江兆民(なかえちょうみん)の著作。ジャン・ジャック・ルソーの『社会契約論』を翻訳し、訳者による「解」をつけたもの。漢文訳である。兆民の主宰する雑誌『政理叢談(せいりそうだん)』の第2号（1882年3月10日）から第46号（1883年9月5日）まで、26回にわたり掲載された。このうち第11号までに掲載された原書第1巻に相当する部分は、『民約訳解巻之一』として、1882年（明治15）10月、仏学塾出版局から単行書として出版された。兆民には別に仮名交じり体で訳した『民約論』があり、74年ごろよりその筆写本が世間に流布していたが、流麗な漢文で発表された『民約訳解』は、民権派人士に歓迎され自由民権運動に大きな影響を与えた。
